Our Story

Ounora exists because of a gap in the calendar that nobody designs for.

A gap nobody designs for

Pregnancy care is built around appointments. You go in, something is measured, you are told it looks fine, and you are given a date about four weeks out.

Then you go home, and for four weeks there is nothing. Nothing to see, nothing to hear, nothing to do. Everyone asks how you are feeling, which is the one question you cannot actually answer, because you do not know either.

That gap is the whole reason this company exists.

The category had already decided what to sell into it

Look at how home fetal dopplers are sold and you will see the same page over and over: reassurance, peace of mind, know your baby is okay, safe for daily use, OB-recommended.

It is a powerful pitch because it speaks to something real. It is also the wrong thing to sell, for a reason that only becomes obvious when you think about what happens next.

A device sold as reassurance gets used as reassurance. And the one situation where that becomes dangerous is the situation that matters most: a mother notices reduced movement, reaches for the doppler instead of the phone, hears something, and waits. Public health bodies have been warning about that specific chain of events for years.

So we sold the other thing

Because there is another thing in that gap, and it is better.

It is the evening you put the lamp on, sit on the end of the bed, and your partner — who has had absolutely nothing to do for three months — finally has a job. He is the one holding the probe. He is the one who finds it. The room goes quiet for a second because it is much faster than anyone expects and it sounds like it is underwater.

Then somebody fumbles for a phone, puts it on speaker, and a grandparent four hundred miles away hears it too.

That is not reassurance. Nobody in that room learned anything clinical. It is just a good ten minutes in a stretch of weeks that is otherwise made of waiting — and it is a thing you can genuinely sell without lying about it.

Not a verdict. A sound.

What that decision cost, and what it bought

Choosing that framing meant giving things up. We cannot say the words that convert best in this category. We cannot imply the device tells you anything. We had to write a product page with a section that actively talks people out of buying, and a Health & Safety page whose headline message is that our own product should never be used to decide whether to seek care.

What it bought is a business we can defend. Every claim on this site is one we can stand behind, which means we are not one review away from having to quietly delete half the copy.

Where we are now

One product. Gel and a pouch in the box because the device does not work without the first and gets lost in a drawer without the second. Sixty days to decide instead of thirty. A phone number that rings.

If you want the detail on how we are set up, that is on the About Us page. If you are about to buy, please read the Health & Safety Information first — genuinely, it is the page we would most want you to read.
